I have been frequently asked questions about the proliferation of lunasin supplements in the market today and whether these products are equivalent to the lunasin found in the LunaRich® products. The answer is that they are not the same and here's why. The lunasin peptide, like most small proteins, gets digested into fragments of amino acids and becomes inactivated when ingested orally. This happens in most commercial soy preparations even those with high lunasin concentrations, like in soy protein isolates, hydrolyzed soy concentrates and especially in so-called "purified" lunasin extracts , marketed as lunasin supplements. We developed a proprietary lunasin bioactivity assay, based on lunasin's patented epigenetic mechanism of action, to measure the amount of lunasin that remains bioactive even after digestion. Using this bioassay, we were able to identify the best soy varieties and develop manufacturing and extraction processes to produce LunaRich® , a soy protein complex formulated to protect lunasin from digestion and inactivation when taken orally. We are also using the lunasin bioassay to standardize the dose of bioactive lunasin from each production run to ensure and guarantee the bioavailability and potency of lunasin in the LunaRich® products.
