One of the things that the most guaranteed in life is that we are going to get older and eventually die. For years people have been looking at ways to slow downs process, however one thing is certain we will never be able to stop this process. People have been fascinated with ways of looking younger, being healthy and living longer and people have been looking for the magic pill or that magic potion to fight off the effects of ageing and looking more younger and is vibrant for hundreds of years. However the reality is, It is going to be a combination of our daily choices that will determine the quality and longevity of our lives. Genetics has got a part to play in it as well, however what is just as importantly is our Epigenetic's because to a certain extent we control what is going on through our choices. This short guide Is designed to start putting you on the path to making better choices. This is by no means an in-depth study into this area, However It is an introduction to change your mindset in terms of health and your future. So here are my top 10 tips for looking younger, living longer and being healthier. ![]() TIP Number 10 De-stress Stress is one of the major killers, it destroys your immune system, which is your body's number one line of defence. If can also give you a negative mindset, which is very detrimental because eventually you become what you think. I know it can be hard sometimes, however you still have the choice whether not you are going to stress over a situation or not. When you stressed your body feels more tighter and your muscles are more tense, this is just the body's reaction to try and protect itself. So if you are stressed you will find it difficult to relax and relaxation is just as important for your physical body as it Is for your mental state. Stress can affect your raspatory system as well as your cardiovascular system and long-term stress can contribute greatly to heart problems as well as problems with your blood vessels. Stress has also been linked increased inflammation and inflammation in the body is what eventually causes a lot of the chronic diseases that people experience. Stress has been linked to issues with both the Male and Female reproductive systems, Effecting testosterone and sperm production in men and also sexual desire In women. So as you can see to de-stress is a very smart choice in terms of living a more healthier, high quality lifestyle and also living a longer life. ![]() TIP Number 9 Having A Positive Mindset This follows on from my previous discussion about de-stressing, Having a positive mindset is a major Influence in your ability to live an effective quality of life. One of the major battles a person will face are the battles that go on in the mind. Les Brown who is an amazing motivational speaker Says this "If you can defeat the enemy within the enemy without can do you no harm" Whether or not you are trying to live healthier, or whether you are going after success in business, education or if you're looking to improve relationships, It will all start in your mind. You manifest externally what is first identified and experienced internally. I have a Facebook page where I post a daily talk called Midday Mindset, and in these talks, I cover a number of topics. Truth be known, as much as it is giving value to the people that are tuning into It, It is giving as much value to me and is self therapy as I am delivering it. Mindset is so important and even though it is Number 9 on my list, it is probably the most important point on this list. ![]() TIP Number 8 Reduce Toxins From Around You, (This Can Be Both External & Internal) First of all this important to understand damaging effects toxins are having on our bodies. We also need to know that there are both external toxins and also internal toxins so we need to take steps to reduce both. External toxins can be something like breathing in somebody else's cigarette smoke, eating foods with pesticides sprayed all over them or maybe just living in an area where there is a lot of pollution. We choose the environment in which we live and ultimately this will affect the quality of our lives long term. For instance living on the outskirts of the city will expose you to less pollution than living within the City. These types of choices are known as epigenetic choices because our external environment a positive or negative effect on how our genes express themselves. Internal toxins can be bad bacteria in the body or yeast, which can create toxins from within. A viral infection or chronic stress and anxiety, coupled with a poor mindset can cause the build up of toxins and also affect the body's ability to be able to do deal with them. So we need to detox our environment as well as detox our bodies. There are a number of ways to do this this, however this guide is just to start you on your path to living healthier and longer, so you still have some homework to do : - ) ![]() TIP Number 7 Get Rid Of Toxic People From Your Life Let's face it, there are just some people that you are better off NOT having them in your life. These may be friends or family, maybe work colleagues or business partners. These toxic people can be devastating to you physical, spiritual and emotional life. Sometimes you just have to cut ties with people because staying around them will not only limit your potential and could actually shorten your life. Stop trying to hold onto that person that does not appreciate you OR deserve you! Stop letting other people's opinion of you be your reality! The problem is people give others too much power over them and Instead of realising their true potential, they suppress their potential under the weight of negative people's Influence. People telling you "You are not going to make it" or "If it was going to happen it would have happened already" People telling you that you are worthless and will never amount to anything. A husband or a wife thinking that the grass is greener somewhere else and not realising what they have in you. LET THEM GO!!!!! If and when they wake, they may qualify to be part of your life again and they don't, your life will not stop. Toxins destroy good cells that should be benefiting the body and toxic people destroy the potential in good people that should be impacting everyone that they come in contact with. It is time to De-Tox! You will be amazed at how good you feel once you have gone through a Detox. ![]() TIP Number 6 Be Fulfilled In Your Work One of the areas where we spend the most amount of time, is in what we do for a living, this means if you are not fulfilled in that area of your life, you will feel dead and useless which will impact the quality of your life. One of the reasons I left the corporate world and pursued a career building a Home Based Business was because I was not feeling fulfilled and I felt I could be having a greater impact doing something else which involved helping people but would give me the freedom I was looking for. I found my fulfillment. If you go to a job that you hate, sit in an office that you do not want to be in and are surrounded by people you cannot bare to be around, you are not living your full potential and you are wasting your life away. When I found fulfillment in my work, i travelled more than I ever travelled before, I earned more money then I had previously earned before and I made more true friends than I had ever made before. All this having more time with my family than I ever had before and I am a married man with 4 kids! It was definitely a MindSet shift moving from employment to empowerment, but one that changed the whole quality of my life. Which i truly believe has had a knock on effect in my health, I am 47 years and many people think I am in my early 30's. So what what ever you do for work, make sure you are getting fulfilment out of it and not just chasing money. ![]() TIP Number 5 Believe In Something Bigger Than You The problem that holds many people back is, they are so caught up in their own self-importance that they can't see anything bigger than them. This challenge with this mindset is, if you are the biggest thing in your universe then your universe is very small. If you can believe that you are being guided by something bigger than yourself, you can you take all limitations off what you can achieve. I understand that not everybody subscribes to the same belief system, however you have to believe in something outside of yourself. At the least it will affect your associations and your associations will affect the quality of your life. We are social beings, so we naturally gravitate around people who believe the same things. So for me, my belief is, I am a Christian, so my social circles would be mainly around other Christians BUT not limited to them. When I look for people to join me in my business I look for Christians who are entrepreneurial in their thinking BUT I am not limited to them and in fact in my organisation I have Christian, Muslims, Jews and people with no religious affiliation. The reason my I particularly look for people who have the same belief as me is because I know we should be coming from the same moral place because we believe in the same higher power. Does that mean I cannot have a meaningful relationship both personally and socially with someone who is not a Christian? Absolutely Not however, it is always easier when two people believe the same thing. The same goes for Muslims, Hindu's, Sikh's and any other religious group you can think of. Having a belief in something bigger than you, moves YOU out of the way which results in less stress which results in better health. ![]() TIP Number 4 Get Sufficient Rest If you ask any physician or doctor they will tell you that rest is extremely important when is come to the body's ability to repair itself through its own physiology. When the body is deprived of sleep, it is unable to rebuild and recharge itself adequately. Your body requires rest. Even when you train doing physical exercise, having rest days is extremely important in terms of getting the physical results a person is looking for. Sufficient rest can be sometimes hard to achieve in this hectic highly charged entertainment world we are living in, we are always on the go and want everything NOW, NOW, NOW! The knock on effective is, the cell regenerating rest needed is not being experienced. Now did you know it can have a direct impact on how you look? In a 2010 study published in the British Medical Journal, a group of Swedish investigators looked at whether sleep-deprived people were perceived as less healthy, less attractive and more tired than after a normal night’s sleep. Twenty-three healthy adults were photographed after a normal night’s sleep (about eight hours) and again after a night of sleep deprivation (31 hours of wakefulness!). The photos were presented to 65 untrained observers who rated them. Results indicated that sleep-deprived people appear less healthy, less attractive and more tired when compared to photographs taken after a full night’s sleep. So you imagine treating your body like this over a long period of time, the impact that it would have on your overall appearance. Skin grows a lot in our sleep. We develop nearly 30 times more skin while asleep than when awake. Notice those dark circles and bags under your eyes after a poor night’s sleep? The skin of a healthy sleeper is more elastic, supple and taut. The more you get a full night’s sleep, the more you’ll have that youthful glow. So from a pure vanity point of view to keep your youthful looks, the proper amount of rest is extremely important. ![]() TIP Number 3 Exercise Without a doubt this is one of the most important elements to stay fit and healthy, living longer and looking younger. Our bodies need physical exercise, If it doesn't get it It will seize up. It has been said that physical exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. The beauty about it is, it can have immediate effects as well as long-term effects. For some people having regular physical exercise by going to the gym helps them to stop feeling depressed and gives them more mental clarity. For others it gives them a sense of accomplishment. It is recommended to do at least 30 mins of exercise per day and in doing so you drastically reduce the possible of developing certain health conditions. Many people have seen results and improvement with a number of conditions just by changing their lifestyle and incorporating daily exercise. It is never too late to start. Increases in daily activity can come from small changes made throughout your day, such as walking or riding a bike instead of using the car, getting off the train or bus a stop earlier and walking the rest of the way, or walking the children to school. These subtle changes can make a big difference. It is always easier if you have a training partner if you do go to the gym, however just remember you can build up slowly. My wife and I sometimes train together, initially we did not because the type of exercise I did she didn't do. However now she has stepped up her game and she trains harder than a lot of the women that go to our local gym. ![]() TIP Number 2 Eating Healthy What we put inside our body is so important, because it is the fuel that will make the mechanics work. Our bodies are high performance machines and as such they need high performance fuel. Our problem is, we have completely lost control of our food chain, so the quality of the food in our stores are pretty poor. A nutritious, well-balanced diet – along with physical activity and steering clear of smoking in any form – is the foundation of good health. Healthy eating includes eating high-quality proteins, carbohydrates, heart-healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and water in the foods you take in while minimizing processed foods, saturated fats and alcohol. Eating in this way helps you maintain your body’s proper functions, it alsio promotes optimal body weight and can assist in preventing potential future issues. The nutrients in the foods you eat are needed to support what you are doing on a daily basis, they are also used to protect your cells from environmental damage and repair any cellular damage that might occur. The Protein rebuilds injured tissue and promotes a healthy immune system. Both carbohydrates and fats gives your body energy, while vitamins and minerals are used throughout your body in support of your body’s processes. Vitamins A, C and E, for example, act as antioxidants to protect your cells against toxins, and B vitamins help you release the energy from the foods you eat. Calcium and phosphorus keep your bones strong, while sodium and potassium help to transmit nerve signals.
